Enterprise Week

Enterprise Week events at Bucks New University

This year for the first time Buck was the organizer of the New University of events relating to international enterprise week.

Meetings and activities were designed specifically for students to enable them
range of commercial opportunities, networking forums and challenges.
Activities this year include: a session on guarding intellectual property rights by Silas Brown of London lawyers, Briffa; the Divine Chocolate Story with Divine Chocolate’s sales manager David Greenwood-Haigh; Women in Business Day, including sessions on gaining confidence and credibility, giving great presentations, and thinking creatively; tips and advice on networking from David McQueen of Milestone Unlimited; and the Event Management Student Showcase featuring an interview with Denzyl Feigelson, head of Artists Without A Label, talking about the concept for iTunes.

Organized conferences were particularly useful and interesting for students from business courses such as Marketing, PR and Management. Debate was attended by many representatives of leading UK’s Agencies . They were answering questions from tutors and students, they were also talking about the current job market in marketing industry. Invited guests informed us about the future of marketing communications, where is it going and what will be needed in the labour market during the next few years. Despite disagreements in many issues, the all agreed that it job experience during studying is something very important . Each student should be interested in this even before graduation.

Fred Edwards, managing director of myFD, provided the catalyst for the creation of the University’s Apprentice Challenge, by suggesting that students should be given the opportunity to develop their selling skills. “I described myself as someone whose experience in starting a business happened quite late on. By initiating the idea of an enterprise challenge, my aim was to encourage young people to become entrepreneurial sooner rather than later, and what better audience to target but students. I am really impressed with how the University has accepted my challenge and created an exciting, well thought-out event,” he commented.
